I have been meaning to write a Half Double Crochet (hdc) beanie pattern for some time now. You all seem to really like my Basic Beanie pattern which uses double crochet stitches so I thought you’d also like a hdc beanie pattern.
I used the exact same worsted weight yarn (all hats were made from the same skein) for my samples because I wanted my measurements to be as accurate and consistent as possible. Please check your gauge before starting your own hat.

-you are crocheting in the round
-hat is worked from the top down
-the ch at the beginning of each round never counts as your first stitch
-you can make any size hat longer or shorter by repeating or eliminating the second to last row
-Some of my sizes have a hat height that is shorter than the size chart recommends. I felt that some of the hats ended up being too tall. I based my opinion on my experience measuring hats for myself, my kids and my Etsy Shop customers. You can simply add a few more rounds of hdc if you want your hat to be taller.
